Talk about needing "gun laws" - there should be a law that penalizes blatant lies and requires a lengthy, prime time retraction, along with guests who refute and clarify the lies put forth.
And THEN they should go to prison for abusing the 1st amendment.

I take it he meant to say.....more lethal than the M14? Or it’s just a better caliber and more reliable gun for combat might be more appropriate?

It does sound like he should have said M-14, based on the comparison used. But the early M-16 experience in 'Nam was not good when they had their jamming issues due to the ammunition issues, after changing the powder used.

It does appear as though such legislation is in order. The spewing of false information on the part of the news media is widespread and accepted. So much so that it is even expected.
