Default GOA ALERT: 2-21-2018 Call Trump NOW to Oppose Gun Bans & Support Safe Students Act

GOA ALERT: 2-21-2018 Call President Trump NOW to Oppose Gun Bans and Support the Safe Students Act
    https://gunowners.org

    WE NEED EVERYONE
to CALL PRESIDENT TRUMP TODAY at 202-456-1111 or 202-456-1414.

Tell President Trump to OPPOSE the BUMP STOCK BAN, which is badly defined and will BAN MAGAZINES and BAN PISTOL GRIPS, and create other unknown future bans.
Tell President Trump to OPPOSE the FIX NICS bill, which is badly defined and will BAN GUN OWNERSHIP for SENIORS and MILITARY VETERANS.
Tell President Trump to SUPPORT the SAFE STUDENTS ACT HR-34 to ALLOW ARMED PROTECTION of SCHOOLS by qualified security guards, administrators, teachers, and parents.

(Example of call narrative: "Hello, my name is (your name), I am a registered voter in zip code (your zip code), please tell President Trump to oppose the Bump Stock Ban and to oppose the Fix NICS bill, and to please support the Safe Students Act HR-34. Thank you.")

    ----

It’s only been a week since the heartbreaking school shooting in Florida, but anti-gun activists and politicians have already begun yet another campaign to restrict YOUR Second Amendment Rights.

They’ve introduced a bill to supposedly fix the “broken” NICS background system…

… but not only would this bill prevent hundreds of thousands of law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights, it also wouldn’t prevent any mass shootings.

These anti-gun activists are currently trying to convince the President that he should support their disastrous gun control efforts.

And sadly, it may be working. The President, who just came out in support of banning bump stocks, is now in talks with the supporters of the anti-gun NICS bill.

This ban on bump stocks is so broad that it will also cover standard capacity magazines and semi-automatics with pistol grips.

Help us stand up for the Second Amendment, call the White House at 202-456-1111 today and tell President Trump that he should oppose the expansion of federal background checks and oppose the ban on bump stocks.

If that number is busy, then call 202-456-1414.

There is one proposal that would prevent shootings like this in the future.

The Safe Students Act (H.R. 34) would repeal gun-free school zones across the country, allowing security guards, administrators, teachers, and parents to protect their students.

98% of public mass shootings occur in gun-free zones. These killers target locations where guns are not allowed because they feel safe. Precious lives are lost because of the time it takes to stop these killers.

It’s time to eliminate this ineffective ban and put the safety of our nation’s children first.

Call the White House at 202-456-1111 today and tell President Trump that he should oppose the expansion of federal background checks … oppose the ban on bump stocks and magazines … and throw his support behind the repeal of gun-free school zones instead.

Again, if that number is busy, then call 202-456-1414.

Just wanted to add that when I called I was waiting in line for about 10 minutes because so many people are calling in for and against guns.
The person that answered was a volunteer, not a paid operator to take messages.
She was extremely polite and she listened carefully and she took the message accurately.
I have been making political calls for many years, and this is the first time I experienced someone on the White House message line that was actively interested beyond just taking a message and checking a 'pro' or 'anti' box on a form.
I also added that I voted for Trump and she was careful to note that in the message as well.
My message was that I am against the bump stock ban and the Fix NICS bill, because they are overly broad and will have unintended consequences, and that I support the Safe Students Act HR-34.
I strongly encourage everyone to please call the White House today.

Thanks Alpaca, and good post and letter.
I generally post the GOA alerts separately because some people look for them specifically.
Also I try to keep the alerts very simple with something that can be completed within just a few minutes.
Sometimes people see the long stuff and they don't have the time to get into it.
In a perfect world everything would be more like your post and letter.
But given the realities it is useful to have both approaches available to accommodate people with different needs.
Thanks for writing and posting your letter.

]Jordan: Background Check Bill Is A ‘No Go’ Unless It Contains Concealed Carry Reciprocity

Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan says that the House will vote down any legislation on expanding federal background checks for gun purchases if it does not include provisions guaranteeing concealed carry reciprocity.

Concealed carry reciprocity would allow permitted handgun owners to carry concealed in all states where the practice is lawfully allowed. The House passed a concealed carry reciprocity measure in December, which was passed to the Senate and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Jordan told Politico’s Rachael Bade that passing a new bill without a reciprocity clause — including the current version of the bill being pushed in the Senate by John Cornyn — “would allow bureaucrats and administrators to take away an individual’s Second Amendment liberties, and something that fundamental you’ve got to have a court make that decision to give due process to American citizens.”

The Cornyn bill is expected to pass the Senate and is allegedly supported by the Trump administration.

At Tuesday’s White House press briefing, Sarah Sanders told the media to expect “further action” on common sense gun control measures.

Damn, that sounds like amazing news if I'm interpreting it correctly.

National reciprocity, I have come to believe after much debate, is a dangerous initiative disguised as a win for gun rights. The only thing more dangerous is to value it so much that you would trade away expansion of already existing restrictions for reciprocity.

To enlist the federal government to force every state to acknowledge every other states permitting system is tyranny. You are saying that local people don’t have the right to create restrictions and you believe that bringing the whole weight of the federal government to bear on them....New York, New Jersey and California...is an acceptable way to force compliance.

So you have decided that giving the feds the power to do this is worth it even though the same federal government that now has the power to give it......can also take it away. They would be able to set all the rules by which you get to play their game. The kinds of firearms you can carry, the size of the caliber, the magazine capacity just like local jurisdictions do now.

Only, this will apply nationwide! You can’t choose to vote with your feet anymore and go to more friendly places like Texas or Montana. Now you’ve served up those options to the federal government. We should be working toward less consolidation of power in Washington DC. What you want to do is let the swamp be in charge.

And you should be asking yourself why the NRA smacked down bumpstocks and signed off on expanded background checks and mental health reporting......but made national reciprocity their banner regulation? So you want Wayne or whoever comes after him forever to influence what National carry policy is going to be?

Be careful what you are demanding. It’s dangerous.

You *do* understand that the 2nd Amendment tasks (codifies the power) the Federal Gov't with ensuring that RKBA "shall not be infringed?" It is not a power "delegated to the states".

By what power do the local and state governments enact restrictions on your RKBA? So then, you think the federal government will honor the second amendment at your complaint......more than your local officials?

I would point out that an unfriendly Congress/POTUS combo could rescind concealed carry. They could ban semi-auto handguns along with semi-auto rifles. All it takes is a few vacancies on the SCOTUS filled by the unfriendlies to find such action constitutional. They aren't being handed any authority they don't already assume they have. We saw that when we were all told we had to buy health insurance or face consequences. The devil will be in the details of course. Will we have a federal carry license of just a law that says anyone with a permit to carry in their home state is immune from prosecution in any other state? I was pretty happy when they stepped in and said no one could sue a gun manufacturer for producing a lawful product. That pissed a lot of states off that thought they'd sue manufacturers out of existence and fill their coffers at the same time.
