Re: Best shooting bag filler?
I paid for my Ocean City NJ beach tags last summer, and they had plenty of sand there to fill my sand rest. Who says NJ isn’t good for anything.

Navy Beans. Super cheap. Would be an actual bean bag then. Just don't get them wet.
I've used them for projects with Scouts. Tried eating them once, they're not meant for that obviously.Galations 6:9...And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

I wanted to originally use rice but decided that the chance of it getting wet or a critter chewing through was not worth it. I went with aquarium gravel. It works but is heavy! That extra weight will take a toll on the bags themselves.
I did check Michael's, Wal-Mart, Jo-Ann Fabrics and any other store I could think of to get poly beads but nobody had them in any quantity more than a handful and I was not buying 50 small bags to fill one rest.

Re: Best shooting bag filler?
I used to use old tumbler media, but over the years the corn cob stuffing picked up moisture out of the air. Over time it started to form mold on the outside of the bags. I emptied them out and cleaned them super good with a lot of detergent in the heavy duty cycle of our washing machine. I found a ten pound poly bead bag on Amazon- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and they are really nice for this application.
I do need to replace my older bag, as it seems to only have a single stitch line where (I think) it should have two; because 10 pounds of these little pellets do push a bit on the seems. I'll keep using it until it finally rips, but I don't think that will happen for a while.
I thought about using rice also, but I always end up shooting off of a wet bench or damp ground. I didn't want to see the mold again, especially with my children just starting to shoot, so poly beads for me.
