I have the blades too, they're lighter and don't add much length. I just think the collapsible stocks look cool. And if I'm spending someone else's money...

For clarification, I bought a complete built AR lower. It's complete with stock, buffer etc. I'm legally OK to build a pistol on her, correct? It's the upper that designates it a pistol or rifle, not the lower. It was logged as other and as receiver at the FFL.

I could be wrong, but I'm gonna go with "NO", pending corrections from someone more familiar. If it has a rifle stock attached it's a rifle or SBR, per my understanding. Even if you remove the stock and buffer and install a pistol buffer tube, you would then be making a pistol FROM a rifle, which is bad juju.

I would love to be told I'm wrong about these RIDICULOUS rules, but I personally would not build a pistol from that lower.

    My 2¢
    YMMV
    etc...

From my understanding, as long as the receiver has NEVER had an upper attached (i.e. making it a complete gun), the stock and rifle buffer tube could be removed and a pistol buffer/optional brace could be installed. Then a short pistol upper could be installed to make a pistol.

Again, I believe this is true ONLY if the "complete lower" has never had an upper attached at any time (since it was transferred as a receiver).

    See signature though...

No problems building a pistol on that lower unless you attach a 16"/other "standard" i.e. pinned and welded upper AND the stock FIRST. Then it's always a rifle. All receivers are transferred as "OTHER" save factory complete rifles ( can never build a pistol) or a factory pistol ( can go back and forth).

You can build a pistol first (i.e. it starts it's life that way) then go rifle then go pistol. (clarified in BATFE 2011-4)

You can't go rifle first to pistol.

    It's extremely clear and simple...right
I always sleep with my guns when you are gone
