Re: 9 MM for the wife
I missed where the OP mentioned she had issues racking the slide.
You'll probably never hear me say this again but listen to the democrat.

Re: 9 MM for the wife
One point that is often forgotten with a hammer fired pistol is that when you rack a slide, you compress two springs, the trigger and the recoil ones. What can be done to make life much easier is to simply cock the hammer before racking the slide. Most hammer fired pistols have trigger springs in the 15-20 lb range, and recoil springs are in the 14-20 lb range depending upon the gun/calibre. It is quite easy to teach and may well save some valuta. Dave_n

i have arthritis in my index and middle finger. I get shots from my Doc for it. They help a lot. If your wife has not tried them it may be worth looking into.

If racking the slide is such an issue remind her that you can rack it for her. That is of course if she’s comfortable and proficient enough to carry with one in the chamber.

Okay - i know this isn't on topic exactly but....
Has she tried a Glock 19 Gen 4? (can't speak for the new Gen 5 as i haven't tried it yet)
I find that one pretty easy and need surgery on both my hands for carpal tunnel - the Glock 43 isn't bad either.
I suppose a revolver isn't of interest? long hard trigger pull - unless you cock the hammer . and no slide to rack. I carry one often.

The shield 380 EZ looks promising. But for a cheaper option Available right now - LC9S or EC9S. And she won't have to get used to a different gun. Right away she'll shoot it much better than the LC9 because of the trigger.

Re: 9 MM for the wife
The HK VP9 series has little slide "cocking supports" that make it easier to rack. It also has a fairly light trigger at around 5.5 pounds like most striker fired guns. However, they're fairly big compared to most other guns in the same class (even the VP9SK).
