From another article I googled. (but closed the link)

Shepard Principal Greg Walder said he first heard of the photos from a parent, whose child had seen them shared on social media. He then reached out to the school's head of security who relayed the information to law enforcement.

"This was all handled within two hours of the first phone call to me and the student never stepped foot in the building," he said, crediting the student who initially flagged the photos for their handling of the situation.

"This all started because the student told their parent," he said. "It's scary to think what could have happened had that student not told their parent."

And they also noted that no threat was observed. But they arrested his ass anyway. Just in case.

See, THIS is why not much can be done proactively to stop these events. You can't arrest people before the commit a crime.
Well, I guess that will be changing now. Arrest and haul off to be 302'd - for having a photo of a gun.

Has the ACLU stepped in to defend his 1st Amendment rights yet?

    Yep.

Did you hear the sheriff in Florida at the news conference pushing for forced, police 302s for suspicious people?

This will be the future. Consider the facebook entry of the recent FL. shooter that stated his desire to be a "professional school shooter". The post was reported to the FBI who in turn did not go further in any investigation and did not notify local authorities of the post. Beware of what is posted on facebook, as one poster already eluded to.

You can't blame the FBI, they were busy trying to find a Trump-Russian colusion.
