Default legality of converting an ar pistol to a non-sbr rifle

I have an ar pistol that I want to convert to a legal, non-sbr rifle. Is this possible and if so how do I go about doing it? Is it as simple as taking the pistol length upper off, putting a rifle length barrel on and installing a stock?

Did you buy it as a pistol? Did you build it? Was a Dealer involved?

You may build the pistol into a rifle with a barrel length of 16" or more. Since it started life as a pistol, you can also return it to the pistol configuration at any time.

The only bad mojo is taking a rifle and converting it into a pistol. For some reason the Men in Black don't like that.

As w most NFA rules, it makes no sense....like having a $700 AR15 and about $10 worth of FA parts makes the thing costs $20000....while the shooter patsy of Miami HS sits in the hoosegow at $40000 per year from taxpayers. No sense.
