Any new info on the Smith Victory?

Honestly I've never even handled the Victory, but the fact that it has a take down screw would turn me off automatically. Ruger has solved the issue of the complex, swear inducing take down and assembly with the MKIV. Their history of reliability and aftermarket support can not be ignored either. I haven't shot a MKIV yet either but I'm hearing good things. There is a MKIV lite sitting in my folks safe (because I can't be trusted to not give it to her early) for my wife's birthday in April.

I think it may come down to what I find at a very good price first. THe same thing happened when I bought my first semi-auto carry gun. The Ruger p-89 was $50 cheaper than a Smith semi in the same case at the first Oaks show I attended.

I will most likely buy one used. If I see either at around $225 in almost new condition it will be hard to pass it up.

I have the threaded model, and love it. No problems with any ammo I feed it, and no problem with the screw working loose. As accurate as my MK III target, nice feel to it, can run it suppressed. What's not to love?

Why has the S&W fallen off the radar a little? Well, the release of a Ruger that can be field stripped and reassembled without a hammer, set of tools, and an engineering degree.

I love my Victory and would recommend it to anyone. I think it has a slightly better trigger than the Mark IV.

I've had four Ruger MK II's in my lifetime, and never had trouble field stripping them, and reassembling. If you can read the manual, you too can do it. I don't like the design of the new MK IV.

There was no problem with the original Rugers. If you can't figure out how to let gravity work for you, I don't know what to say.

I have two Ruger Mk Is and two Mk IIs all with the 5 7/8 ths barrels. The two Mk Is are 50 plus years old, one Mk II is 30 plus and the other 20 plus years old. My then 7 year old son could put the 30 year old Mk II back together in under 2 minutes. As said, if you can read you can field strip clean and reassemble a Ruger Mk I to III in under 10 minutes. I also agree with the comment on the M 41 (have both the 5.5 inch and 7 inch barrels for an early model. Tack driver is not the word. I/4" hole if I do my job correctly with SV ammo. Dave_n
