The only cops who could manage that trick are gun guys, and they wouldn't pull that crap.

Hell the one who disarmed me needed instructions - from me - just to *clear* my 1911, no way he was taking it apart.

How big of an asshole does one have to be to feel safer taking away a loaded gun they haven’t a clue on how it operates?

Years ago I was carrying concealed. Long tee shirt covered my gun. This was at the OC dinner at the old country buffet. The cops were taking guns to run them. I approached the officer and told him I would not be handing my gun over for it to be run. He said why. I stated I had broken no laws and had cooperated fully to this point. I told him that I felt it was an unsafe act giving him my loaded gun to run it. He stammered and mumbled he was trained to handle all sorts of guns. And my response was you don't even know what the gun is. He wandered off and the checks stopped.

It was a Kimber 1911 ultra carry.

Nope form never came in the mail, I spoke with a live person who took my information and nothing came.

Some years ago I heard a story of a cop who took a citizen's gun for "officer safety." The cop asked the citizen how to clear the weapon. He received instructions to "aim it at your ear and pull the trigger eight times." I think the citizen was gently expressing his dissatisfaction.

Sadly this neither surprises me nor would I rather see them clear it without knowing. My next door neighbor is a cop and doesnt know how to field strip his duty weapon. The few times I went shooting with him, I offered to clean it afterwards since he would let it go otherwise.

I remember years back there used to be ongoing threads where it used to be problematic that during a traffic stop; LEO would run your weapon through there "not-registry/sales database" and if it wasnt in there, they would confiscate it until you could prove ownership. I havent heard much about that recently. Is it no longer a problem?
