When she tried them, which did she like? My recommendation is that one.

THIS. Let the lady look at both and pick. Make sure she can rack the slide, is comfortable with the grip, and can easily use the controls (especially if she has a small hand)

Has she shot much before? Some women (and some guys) are intimidated by recoil and smaller carry guns make it worse. I would have her shoot as many different types of pistols as you can and see what she likes and can handle first.

In my opinion, any striker fired auto loader from a reputable manufacturer is as good as the next. I would have her handle, and if possible shoot, multiple models and get whichever she prefers.

Personally, I like Glocks, because I do not want a manual safety on a defensive handgun, and prefer simplicity.

The only other advice I would offer is that if she is going to carry, she should get something that will be comfortable and managable, probably not a full size gun.

I recommend the G-42. But yes, let her choose.

Have her try everything. Revolvers, semis, nothing wrong with .380 or even smaller if she is recoil sensitive (it's better to shoot a perp with a .22 than chuck a rock at him).

The Shield EZ looks promising if she's really not a "gun person."

Might also want to consider two guns, one for EDC, another for home. AR15s are great for HD, soft shooting and hold enough ammo to get through a fight. Guns that carry well don't usually shoot well, that may be magnified for her.

If we are throwing out other options, the Sig P938 is a good choice imo. You live right near me if she wants to try mine. I have some other compact and subcompact 9mm as well.

Amen to that. One of the most useless guns I've ever owned.
