If your Dad bought it in PA , it would be in the ROS under his name. Being his son (same last name?) there should not be an issue. If he has the original receipt , even better. Make and keep a copy for yourself. I keep a couple copies of the above state police letter I posted above in my vehicle should a situation arise.
    I don't speak English , I talk American!

Why do I have to register a gun in a state that does not have a gun registry.

    asking for a friend.

For some reason, guns seem to change things. When an officer is confronted with a person carrying a gun having no paper trail connecting the gun to the carrier, officers in the past considered that as reasonable suspicion justifying additional investigation. That logically means the evidence...the gun...needs to be secured, otherwise the evidence may disappear.

A gun bestowed by a father presumably has a sentimental value that cannot be replaced. The gun may eventually be returned, if seized, but it may not be in the same condition. Not worth it.

In addition...should the gun be used in self-defense, it will become evidence, taking it out of the owner's control. Expect the gun to be held for a long time to give the defendant time to use up appeals. Not worth it.
^^^^^This is the forever answer. Carry easy to replace guns you bought through an ffl transfer and make life easier on yourself. Police traded Glocks and M&Ps are great if your not into revolvers.

You don't. No law against going the hard way. Maybe nothing happens. Probibly won't. You don't have to buy collision insurance either.

Carrying (meaning a loaded firearm, as opposed to transporting a cased, unloaded firearm) in a vehicle requires LTCF or reciprocal license (for non-residents only).

In short there are no short answers when it comes to the law.
