Darn - I found the data at the bottom of that pdf....

    Fastest Incapacitation times....

    380 ACP Mag safe 60g - 7.12 seconds

    38 special 2" barrel, Glaser 80gr +P - 4.72 seconds

    9mm 4.25" barrel, Mag Safe 68gr +P - 4.74 seconds

    357 Magnum, 4" Quik-Shock 125 HP - 4.40 seconds

    40 S&W 4" barrel, MagSafe 84 gr - 4.52 seconds

    10mm 4.24" barrel MagSafe 92gr - 4.48 seconds

    45 acp 5" barrel, MagSafe 96gr +P - 4.68 seconds

All of these were exotic high speed rounds. The 357 wins.

The one that surprised me was the 38 snub... it was very close to the 45 acp. Which makes me wonder about the conclusions of the study.

Gene I don't doubt the .38 special round. It is really nothing more than a short .357 magnum. I have carried 6 of the calibers listed above, except the 10mm.

what's with all the tiny round weights? No one in their right mind would carry that 9mm load, for example.

I am not sure. They all had high muzzle velocities.

I am skeptical of the strasbourg studies but want more data.

Yeah, they can say all they want about all that new fangled hollerpoint poly tipped copper swaged so and so but when push comes to shove and have to shoot through an engine block and two houses to knock a perp back ten feet you shoot a .45 acp.
