Re: .308 vs. 300 WSM
Anything North America I'm going .300 WSM. It's got more oomph for something like a brown bear and more range necessary for some species.
I'd always advocate too much vs. too little when it comes to a single choice in caliber."A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself"
"He created the game, played the game, and lost the game.... All under his own terms, by his own doing." JW34

Re: .308 vs. 300 WSM
I own both, 300wsm gets vote for extended range. but if you were only going to own 1 rifle id go 300 win mag, it handles heavy projectiles better than the wsm ammo is also cheaper and easier to find.

Both are good cartridges. I would give accuracy to the 308 and energy to the 300 WSM. I’m like Roy Weatherby, velocity, velocity, velocity.

Re: .308 vs. 300 WSM
I bought a 300 RSAUM this year, I got a smoking deal on a Remington model Seven and I absolutely love it . . Too bad ammo is non-existent and I have to build my own.

Re: .308 vs. 300 WSM
Does overall cost and availability of ammo come into consideration? Is reloading an option? If so I'd probably pick the .308 for overall versatility.
Actually I'd have some other calibers in mind first but that's not the question.
Edit: USMC beat me to it.It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.
