Marlin 1894 Lever Gun - Finally!

It's a bit rough, and would benefit from a few replacement parts, but it functions.

I'm actually looking forward to "restoring" it. Not so much to make it look like it originally did, but to get it cleaned up, and working as it should. The wood had been refinished, but it's in really good condition.
I'm not sure what I'll do to the steel - Re-blue, parkerize, Duracoat... several options available.
I'll likely go with the least expensive solution, as I'm considering it more of a "working/shtf" gun... time will tell. Parts first, refinishing later.

I've never been so happy to have such a "beat-up" gun! I've been wanting a lever gun for some time now, and simply can't afford a really nice one. I nearly bought a .30-30 a few weeks back, but I'm happy I waited. This is the EXACT model I had hoped to find.
18" Barrel, straight grip stock, no hood on front sight, .357 magnum... it's perfect! Well, except for that trademark Marlin "white stripe" on the butt... that may have to be removed.

I already have visions of what I'd like to do with it... perhaps a leather, stock mounted shell holder, and a sling?

It's so light, I can hardly believe it. Definitely a handy, little carbine.

When I got the Carbine, I originally thought or restoring it myself, at the price it was, I could not leave it there... A few told me i was a thief for having bought it that low, but that is what shopping is all about, I basically did nothing to it other then put a very quick blue on it as the previous owner had stripped it all off and th emetal was showing signs of rust stains.

Like i told you, its a diamond in the rough, with some tender love and care and a few parts the previous owner stripped, it can be a beautiful rifle for well under its valued price. I just never took the time to do it myself, and seeing I knew you where looking for some thing similar on a budget, I figured you would like it.

I'd make it function and replace any damaged screws, but leave the metal as is.

I shot 10 rds of .38spcl thru it. Some jammed, some didn't.
Once I replace the parts, I'll try it again.

Not much felt recoil with the .357magnums, and when I shot the first .38, I laughed because there was hardly any recoil at all.


If anyone has tips or suggestions for this particular model, I'd be happy to hear them.
I have "zero" experience with lever guns - until now.

And suggesting a revolver in .357 magnum is not a "tip", that's a given.
But it's not gonna happen for quite some time.

Nice project gun, and it isn't all that rough... I saw one good screw slot on there.

I like a rifle with a little character. I'd go the same route as Lucas, replace those ugly screws and let the rest be.
