I would post a pic but some of you guys might think less of me due to its pathetic appearence. Your new find is 100 percent better condition than mine is, mine is only twelve tears old, looks like 120 hard years.

    LOL. A "hammer". That's funny.
I looked up the serial number, and it seems it was built in 1982, but to look at it, it looks like it's from 1894 as the model name suggests!

I'm kinda' diggin' that actually... it looks "real".

You know, as much as I wanted "another" AR, after I built my first... I want TEN more lever guns after getting this!
I can't think of one other firearm purchase that has made me smile as much as this one, and this is the one I paid the least for, and have to do the most work on. Go figure.

The 96 is the only modern lever gun I own. I was handed down my grandfathers and great granfathers entire collection of Winchester 94's, 25-20 30-30, 32wcf and 44-40, As well as a whole buch of 88's.

    Thanks!

Heh Heh Heh... doesn't it make you cringe just a little, seeing a firearm lying on ROCKS?

... Well, DON'T LOOK NOW, HERE IT IS AGAIN!!!

What if I told you I DROPPED it there?

Nahhh... I placed it there very gently. I wasn't too concerned though, because even the wood is going to be redone. It doesn't have any scratches/dings, but you can see a few spots where stain dripped on it before the rest of the wood was stained. I'll correct that at some point.

I learned the identity of the original owner of this Marlin today.

I wanted to see if I could remove the white spacer on the butt, and in doing so, found a name, along with a number that was handwritten on the back of the spacer.
I showed it to my wife, and she immediately recognized it as a social security number. We looked up the number online, and the name on the gun matched the one that came up for that ss number.

It appears he died in 1986, and resided in Valencia, PA, north of Pittsburgh.

    Interesting stuff.

A dead man's gun. Took it from him out on the prairie. You can hear the townfolk all whisper the story to each other as you walk past. Were you friends, or were your enemies and you took his weapon after the fight?

See all the fun stories you can tell about your cowboy gun?

It is neat to learn the history of an "old" gun. Even if in this case that history isn't very long.

Have fun with that one, EM.

That thing is sweet, you don't need to do anything to it in my opinion. It looks great.

Whoever took BS tools to those screws should spend an hour in Purgatory for their efforts. Not because it makes the gun look bad, the gun looks great. Just as a matter of principle.

Just don't go trying the Terminator one handed lever action trick! It could be dangerous! LOL
I have a norinco 87 12ga thats had some work done that I can load 1 handed

IMHO, maybe replace a screw or small part . Leave it as is. Still very nice though.

I have an 1860 in the works should be in my hands Hopefully by Thanksgiving
