Default PA Resident LTCF when moving out of state?

I have a basic question that I can't seem to find the answer to: If you have a Pennsylvania 'resident' LTCF and you move out of state...what exactly happens? Once you update your address does it simply become a 'non-resident' license? Or do you have to reapply as a non-resident? If it matters, I am talking about Pike county, which does not issue 'non-resident' licenses. Thanks for any help.

Nothing happens...and you’re not required to update your address either.

If you do update your address, that sheriff may elect to revoke your license if you do not have a license from your new state. But if the sheriff does not revoke your LtCF, it remains valid.

    IMHO.

I do not think Pa makes a distinction between "resident" and "non-resident" licence. i agree with free, there is no mandate to update your address.

Thanks for the replies. So to clarify, if I don't update the address...what happens at renewal? Can I just renew like always even though my county doesn't issue to 'non-residents'. Or at that point should I reapply in another county that does issue to non-residents and just let my current one expire?

Once you update your residency your LTCF becomes useless unless you have a license from your new state of residence. It's technically valid until it expires or revoked, but as a non resident you would need to prove you can carry lawfully in Pa if questioned by the popo.

This has been discussed before, and I believe the consensus was once you move, if you don't have a license from your new home state, you are no longer eligible for a PA license and as such, it's void.

I think, as a practical matter, for as long as you still have a PA DL and PA LTCF that match, you have benefit of carrying in PA as a resident and carrying elsewhere based on whatever reciprocity exists there.

Once you officially change residence (i.e. DL) your PA LTCF does nothing. I'm not aware of any automatic conversion to 'non-resident' status. You'd best be permitted/licensed in your new domicile in that case.

Thanks everyone. So it sounds like to be on the safe side...the best bet is once establishing residency elsewhere, get a license from that state, then re-apply as a 'non-resident' in PA and completely forget about the current resident license.

You can apply in a more ltcf friendly county if you like. Depending on logistics you may have a better option than the county you live in now.

Current one is good until expired or revoked. When you are ready to renew it, THEN go to a non-resident friendly sheriff. Don't lose time on your current one for no reason.
