Ive been interested in this for a few years now.
I dont own a fancy 1911, but would a full size Glock or Sig Sauer work?"One must be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves” ~ Machiavelli

Yes. The rest of the shooters will appreciate the fact they aren’t waiting for you to clear the malfunctions in your pretty 1911 or wait for your ten second reloads.
Go ahead 1911 guys. Tell me I’m wrong.

I don't compete but have spoken to a few guys at my club that do. Many people use non race guns. No one will "look down" on you if you do. They just want to grow the sport and all are welcome.

Production is by far the biggest division for people starting out. Or running limited with a gun that would be production legal so they don’t have to reload.
Show up with something you own. If you like it you can then start getting into the technical side.

It's a misconception that this is a sport for fancy 1911's. I shoot a Glock 17 in production and have no interest in changing that. I also shoot an MP5 clone in the pistol caliber carbine division.
