Re: Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Carbine Manufactured in 1876
A lot of these were cut down to carbine length from the full size. Many were done quite well and can be hard to tell they were changed by people like me who don't deal with them on a regular basis. Guys who know these can tell at first sight. The original carbines seem to be worth more. I have one that was cut down and shoot it with reduced charge ammo quite often. Lots of fun. Good luck with your research.
The question is, will you be on your feet or your knees?

What you have here is a cut down rifle made into a carbine . Stock is pretty much worthless , sorry to say , but would make a nice wall hanger .

Re: Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Carbine Manufactured in 1876
There is no sling swivel bar or inlettimg for one on the stock .
Check the top right corner of ladder of the rear sight for a letter ( either R or C for that year ) I'm guessing a R or nothing
Barrel length should be 22 inches on the nose from breach face to muzzle .
But pad should have a trap door for cleaning rod .
But then , it could be a mixmaster of parts like so many are and all bets are off . My comment is only my guess from what I saw in the picsDAN
