Smoothest pump action out of the box compared to any other pump I've ever handled, new or broken in. No spring loaded shell lifter also means it's the smoothest loading pump gun I've ever used (also, no chewed up fingers or gloves). Barrel attachment to receiver is via interrupted thread for a less sloppy fit. Shoulders and swings like a dream. Bottom eject is great for any hand you try to shoot it with, keeps the action well sealed, and both sides of the receivers as real estate for engraving, or for tacticool shell holders.

Main downsides are, if you plan on using it as an HD/tactical gun, the accessory market isn't as big, and it's tricky to single load from the chamber (though it's still possible, contrary to popular belief). Also, a brand new one isn't cheap. But that's because they're aiming to make a nice shotgun, and they don't cut corners.
mossberg doesn't cut corners either, thats why they're so damn sharp.

I grew up using my grandfather's 870 hunting and shooting clays. When it was time to buy one myself I had to go with what I've known.

I also vote Mossy 590. Ive had a mil park ghost ring 590 for a long time and it is an excellent gun. What I love about the stock, out of the box, 590 is that its all business. Aesthetics don't even factor in. It is brutal, serious, unequivocal. A business-like weapon used by people in a serious business. I trust my life with my 590. 'Nuff said.

Not a 590 but I vote Mossberg nonetheless. I love the position of the controls and most of all, the lifter stays out of the way to reload. I can flip it over, drop a shell into the loading port and push it in with another shell. I could never do that with the 870 when I had one.

The old ones weren’t sharp like the new ones are. You fix it and now it’s silver. Should be done in production. Hell a tumbler would do it .

Got a 590a1 spx and a 870 tactical. Mossberg is my favorite but the 870 is a fine scattergun. I do like the 870 with pistol grip and the 590 traditional stock.
