    I have.
When I first started out hunting I was handed a Marlin 336, still have it.
I'm sure most of us are aware that these rifles (on the older ones) require you to drop the hammer by gently depressing the trigger to render it safe.

I was probably 13 or 14 when after spooking a deer and watching it run off I tried to drop the hammer (with a glove on) and it went bang.
Haven't had one since and hope I never do.

While in the Army deployed to a shithole 9 out of 10 ND were caused by ... ... ... Special Ops folks.
    Can you say Complacency?
If you stopped one entering a base and asked them to use the clearing barrels "We are highly trained" "We know everything there is to know about firearms" etc.. then POP

The one I referred to earlier while hunting was the same 336.
I have one now and can see how that could happen with heavy gloves on

I had the identical thing happen with a winchester. About the same age. Almost blew my foot off.

Wife has an OLD 30/30 lever I used for hunting the very first time with her father. back at the vehicle I was unloading, muzzle in safe direction, and had an ND.. I am 100% positive I did not touch the trigger.
The whole family looked at me like I was the kid from the movie Mask. They kept saying I must have touched the trigger, I used it as a teaching moment for the step kids about watching your muzzle.

next hunting season her brother borrows it to hunt, same thing happens... then it happens to her father after her oldest boy uses it and her father is unloading it.
Now it has a pad lock through the trigger guard with a hang tag "Not safe for use" Need to get it to a good gunsmith to figure out what is up.

This is why after using a half cock notch to prevent ADs for about a hundred years, they decided to put in rebounding hammers, then those cross bolt safeties. Ask my wife about those and the nice buck that got away because of the cross bolt safety!

If you have a problem the half cock notch is the first thing to check.
