    Default advice needed

    Ok need help,advice please.
    Undecided a Ruger GP-100 or an S&W 617.
I'd rather have a gun in my hand then a cop on the phone.

Never shot the Ruger. Had a 617 with a 4" barrel. Was a complete pain to clean which it needed often (as in under 100 rounds) or else the build-up of crud would bind the cylinder and forcing cone.

Cleaned it up nice and sold it with zero regrets.

Also loading it was not fun. 10 rounds at a time. I have one of those speed loaders for my Ruger Mark pistols that loads 10 rounds almost instantly.

Neither? If you want a fun 22lr DA revolver, I would go for either a Ruger SP-101 or a S&W kit gun like a Model 63. Lighter, more useful and easier to shoot. The full size guns in 22 are OK, but, you do not need all that mass in a 22. Just my thoughts. If you want the bigger gun get an older S&W as it will have a better trigger.

I have both a 17-1 and a 617 (both 6" and six-shot). The 617 being a full lug is heavy but the 17 is a delight to shoot. I too, would look for an older 17. Dave_n
