They were a better company when they were mail order only. Their stuff was much higher quality at a better
    pricepoint, but still up there.

Their ammo prices are sometimes decent when on sale. They were about the only place to get .22's for a few years after Sandy Hook.

For ammo, SG, Target Sports and others blow them out of the water.

Everybody's quality used to be better. It was a buyer's market when Bass Pro, Cabala's and Gander Mountain all had catalogs. They all had the same merchandise and kept each others prices in check.

Well now that Bass Pro owns Cabela's and Gander Mountain is no more, Bass Pro must run the show.

Cabelas isn't a gun shop, cabelas is a sporting goods store that sells firearms. Cabelas also has millions of dollars of overhead and operating costs compared to your local gun shop hence the higher prices. I enjoy going to cabelas/bass pro shops to look at all the different products they offer for sale and I've got good deals on boots, clothing, firearm accessories and ammo. If you search around you can get a good deal on guns once and a while. At the end of the day higher costs equal higher prices and despite cabelas high prices they seem to sell plenty of guns.

Therefore, in my book Cabela's would be a gun shop and more. You don't have to sell just guns and ammo to be called a gun shop. As a matter of fact I've never heard of a gun shop that sells just guns and ammo.

I picked up a new gun at Cabela's just today and I must say they've gotten much better and they're much faster. The whole process took about 20 minutes but that was because I made a mistake on the form. Had I not made the mistake it probably would've taken half the time.
