    Default Cannelure question

Just curious, I have bunch of 165 grain 308 bullets with cannelure. However, I'm seating them farther out of the case to get closer to the lands, and the full cannelure is proud of the case.

Other than looking a little hokey, I'm thinking this isn't an issue.

    Thoughts?

Most if not all of my 50bmg are the same way. No issues.

    Definitely not a problem!

As others stated no problem not seating to the cannelure. Although smooth bullets slip the air a bit easier, you probably wouldn't notice the difference until you sent them 5 to 600 yards and farther. Here is a good picture of the drag/turbulence caused by the cannelure http://www.nennstiel-ruprecht.de/bullfly/fig2.htm

Anyone ever tried pocking the surface of a projectile like a golf ball?

I'm surprised that hasn't been done, the more dimples on a golf ball,
    the further it flies.

The rotational axis of a golf ball lies (generally) horizontal and perpendicular to the line of flight.

The rotational axis of a round fired from a rifled bore *IS* the line of flight.

Dimpling a bullet is not going to help its BC...

What about a guy/gal that hits right to left (draw)
or left to right (fade/cut). But I see what you're saying.

    Someone should try this.
