Default Question on Weaver Scope/Flashlight Mount

    Hello all,

Can someone tell me what you call the piece of the mount that I have an arrow pointing to? It’s the piece that clamps into the rail. I have a Weaver rail on my long gun and am having a hard time finding one where the “teeth” wrap arose nd and clamp unto the rail. All seem to be a mm shy in depth. I figure if I at least know the name I can google to see if I can find one that fits. Any idea if there is a standard depth? Thanks!

There are 2 types of rails in general use, the Weaver and the Picatinny. Their profiles are identical, but the width and spacing of the slots isn't. See https://www.brownells.com/aspx/learn...aspx?lid=10724

If you try to use a Picatinny mount on a Weaver rail, the teeth will not engage and the dovetail clamp will not go into the groove in the rail. rings with a Weaver mount will usually fit on a Picatinny rail. If you do this, make sure that that it against the front of the slots before tightening.

The other possibility is that the rail is neither a Weaver or a Picatinny.
Boy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!

Thank you for your response! What am I dong wrong? See the pic below. The teeth won't engage and the dovetail clamp is going into the groove in the rail. This the 2nd one I’ve tried with the same issue. Do I just have the wrong size?
