Negative encounter at the Shop Rite

Out with the family (kid and wife) for Sunday groceries. Open carrying the S&W model 57 .41 magnum (6 inch barrel, basketweave Safariland duty rig).

In a crowded section of the frozen isle, an older woman blurts out to me:

Woman: "Are you a police officer"?
Me: No, I'm not.
Woman: "Then why are you carrying a gun"? (slightly elevated tone)
Me: "To protect my family and me"
Woman: (raised voice) "FROM WHO!!!"
Me: Hopefully, no one.

At this point, my wife leaned over to her and said something. The woman's face went ashen and she said: "I am".

I asked my wife what she said, and she told the woman: "Leave us alone now".

I was half expecting a local PD to be called, but nothing else happened.

your answer should have been, you mean FROM WHOM....

I tried to carry the whole cop...he didn't care for the experience.

Excellent opportunity to reply, "because a cop is too heavy".

From the tone and manner with which the lady asked the first question, I knew what this was going to devolve into.

After open carrying for about 7 years now, almost every day, I can tell from the first word where the conversation will go. I've had genuinely interested/curious folks. Some even asked me about gun ownership and whether they should go that route themselves. I've also had people tell me they feel safer seeing my handgun. I've also (much more rarely) had drama queen d-bags who 1) know that I'm not a threat to them 2) hate me because I have a gun 3) feel perfectly safe being angry and confrontational toward me because they know I'm not a bad guy.

Ok how does this one go : "Hey Buddie, that's a 41 magnum ya got there, so ahh do you even have any bullets for that? Will they work? Hand load much?" j/k

A: It's the dog blood and donut crumbs? I get that a lot. I work at the humane society in Berks.

The police officer question is always funny. If I ask someone if they're a cop, it'll be because I need a cop at that moment.

I was OCing while trick-or-treating with my kids and had a cap with an American flag and DTOM on the back, Someone walked up to me and thanks be for serving.

I told them sadly I haven't but thanked them for thinking to do that.

Shoprite Mt Pocono 1/29/18 ! A regular shopping excursion,wife is sick so I went by myself.Found the temp inside store a bit warm so off came my jacket,and exposed my Glock 19 in belt holster.Making rounds thru store some or should say a lot of people were coughing and sneezing and I say Oh S __ __ T ! I dont need to get sick also so on goes my surgical mask I wear when wifes immune system is down.Every aisle I went thru no comments or looks till I got to pastry section and the young lady says You cant wear that mask and be around food you will contaminate it !Hell yeah little missy then she sees my Glock 19 startled she runs to back of the bakery section and out comes the manager,He say Hi Bill,Wife is under the weather again hope she feels better looks at the girl and laughs and says maybe you to will have to be armed to protect the donuts. True story !

I heard that an armed mystery man with a Tupperware toy ate many crayons on the school supplies isle Only joking From what I remember Shop-rite has zero issues with CC/OC I have shopped their for years doing both. I usually get whispered comments form those from the two plate states
