    Default Trigger pull question

As a new 50' Bullseye shooter, I have been dry firing a lot to refine my skills. It seems to me when dry firing the trigger pull pressure is less than when there is a round in the chamber. Is this true or is my brain playing tricks on me. I am shooting a Springfield 1911 Range Officer with a Nelson .22 conversion. Thanks

The trigger remains the same no matter what is in the chamber. It could be anticipation of the firing makes it seem different. Definitely not the recoil.

I think dry firing allows you to sense everything about the feel of the trigger that is masked by a fired round. In other words, with no round, you feel everything that happens from hammer fall to trigger total take-up. When the pistol reacts to a fired round, the dynamics are different during that portion of trigger pull.

Stand by for much discussion over whether a trigger is pulled versus squeezed.

Agree with this. The trigger is no different dry or hot, but your sense of it may certainly be.

You'll also probably get some suggestions to randomly mix dummy rounds in with your live ones during practice to get past any 'anticipating' such as mentioned above.

Roger that on the trigger pressed terminology. I stand corrected. Thanks for comments so far.

I wasn't correcting you so much as poking fun at Bang for what he posted.

Just don't call a magazine a "clip", or a LTCF a "CCW", and don't shop at Dick's, and you'll do OK.

This is the best resource relative to bull shooting you will find on the web. Lots of good reading.

Enjoy and don't get too frustrated. I have found bullseye to be just about 99 percent mental!

Thanks for the great info! Taking a Gunny Zins Bullseye clinic in February. Looking forward to it.
