I believe she is a Licensed FL resident who was visiting family in PA for the holiday.

So, to be a dick here, she broke the law, right? She had a no-no in NJ, right?

    So, why be one?

These facts are not in dispute. So congratulations for getting to the bottom of those two facts. You too could have a career in law enforcement.

Should she know the law? Yes
Did she break the law? Yes
Should she have been more careful? Yes
Did she fuck up big time? Yes

We KNOW all this already. So, we can be dicks and pile on, and say "stupid bitch done fucked up and should have known better" or "serves her right for going to NJ" or other such things. But to what end?

If she appeared to be a low-life scum bag in general - then, OK, I'm all for the pile on I guess. On the other hand, if she seems to be an otherwise reasonable/good/adequate person who, even through fault of her own, made what may be an "honest mistake" - then some sympathy is not out of line. Even good people fuck up once in a while. Some more than once. Doesn't mean they should have their lives ruined for it, when, at the end of the day, their mistake did not victimize anyone.

Was gonna say basically the same thing. Its terrible that this woman who might otherwise be a normal law abiding citizen now faces jail time and a felony, BUT as a carry permit holder its your responsibility to know the laws for where ever youre going into. And I find it hard to believe that a " law abiding, legal CWP and weapon carring, NRA member and veteran" was completely oblivious to the uber strict gun laws in NJ. A LOT of people I know that know dick all about firearms know good and well not to have a gun in NJ. Just imo, I think its more likely she knew the law, and rolled the dice anyways thinking the odds of actually being pulled over, AND asked if you have a gun, were pretty remote.

Hopefully she gets off with a lesson learned and/or a pardon, and hopefully soon well have national reciprocity. But until that happens, laws are laws, and ignorance of them isnt a viable excuse.

I agree. A couple things I do not do. Keep a gun in the same compartment as my papers, and my LTCF is not with my DL. It's with my cc's turned backwards.

Usually when I screw up you all pile on me so I felt the need to do the same. ;-)

Anyhow, hope she makes out okay.

So riddle me this, if the DWI limit in PA is 0.08 and I pass into NJ and it is 0.06 and I get pulled over and blow a 0.07, is it still my fault?

Exactly. Mine is backwards behind my DL, so only the white back shows. This lady needs to use the Hillary defense: she had no ill intent, therefore shouldn't be prosecuted.

Unfortunately, she never learned how to say no. Keep in mind the SCOTUS determined a reasonable search time (or attempt to get a drug dog or warrant on site) for a typical traffic stop thats lead to a search is 15-20 minutes. Beyond that it's screw those NJ snapper heads, I'll see them in federal court.
