Response to Mass Shootings: The Cost of Freedom

A Thought For The New Year.......


Let's mourn the victims and the suffering of their loved ones - This is the right thing to do...

But don't forget -

Washington & the other founding fathers eschewed the centralized power of a monarchy as well as the potential shared tyranny of a pure democracy. Instead, the Constitution, with the Bill of Rights, is intended to limit government so as to provide as much personal liberty and choice as possible. They also understood it would not be without the cost of personal lives, but it was better than the alternatives.

There have been roughly 1.0 million American Deaths in wars fighting for Freedom (for ourselves or others) - There have been roughly 2.5 million American Casualties of those wars fighting for Freedom (for ourselves or others). Freedom will always have costs.

The Nazi party members were democratically elected to office - Which allowed Hitler to be appointed Chancellor by President Hindenburg. Whereafter, upon Hindenburg's death, Hitler abolished the office and was elected on Aug 19, 1934, as the Fuhrer. The resulting war for Freedom cost more than 50 million lives worldwide. Evil will always require/force good & right to intervene to prevent full slavery or annihilation. Freedom will always have costs.

There have been more than 3.5 million American Deaths from Automobile Accidents (since their creation) while citizens pursued their livelihoods & recreation with these instruments. Freedom will always have costs.


We should mourn the loss of everyone who has laid down their lives so that others can freely pursue their lives with a reasonable level of peace - And we should mourn the loss of those who have died while exercising their freedoms - And also those who have died because others have mis-used their freedom.

BUT..... Taking away rights & freedoms (from everyone), freedoms which millions have sacrificed to establish or protect, is NOT the appropriate response to the circumstances where others mis-use those rights & freedoms.

Let's be vigilant for REAL dangers not inflated risks. Let's deal with ACTUAL bad actors not pursuing thought violations. Let's retain the concept of law enforcement for the purpose to 'Protect & Serve' not 'Corral and Herd'.

Let's mourn the loss of the innocent victims from the many tragedies of 2017 - But let's not create additional victims by (the knee-jerk reaction of) assaulting the inalienable rights of our citizens which were recognized by our brilliant Founders.

Very nice. Something to add to that: start being visible as gun owners and make public the safe and inherently good enjoyment you make of them. Too many people only hear of the stupid violence and criminality on the news and have never plinked or shot a 3gun match or IDPA, cowboy action, etc and evaluate us based on what they see which of course puts us on the defensive. That needs to change immediately and permanently.
