    Default Enfields

I purchased a very nice No4 MkI last year for $250. And ishapore beater rifles have always been under $200. Now I’m seeing prices on these rifles high enough to make howa 1500’s etc more affordable options. Anyone else seeing this?

I think $250 is still a pretty good deal on a No.4 Mk.1 especially if it's in good condition.

And .303 British isn't getting any cheaper.

You could always list the rifle on GoneBroker with a reserve and/or a BIN to see if you can get a price you like.

Also, you might try posting on an Enfield forum like the one on gunboards.com:

I’m looking to purchase not sell them. Gun broker has some listed at $430+ with no bids. I was wondering anyone looking for ex military bolt rifles was finding the same silly prices.

Use the "Completed Auctions" tab under the "Advanced Search" option.

That way you can what they are actually selling for-- as opposed to just the listed prices.

those are No.1's not No.4's. But, wow, I had no idea the No1 SMLE's were going for that much nowadays.

    I got my No.1 Mk1*** for $125-- all matching except for a mis-matched bolt.

Note that you need to be signed in to use the advanced search. Also change sort to 'Highest number of bids first' to get the best results!

Looks like average price for an Enfield #4 is running around $400. Lucked into a #4 Mk 1 about 3 years ago for $200, snatched it up. And yeah, I actually did buy a Howa 1500 in 308 after seeing several friends try to "tune" Mosin rifles into accurate rifles. I ended up spending less on a new Howa that shoots great outta the box, versus Mosin buddies who have never been really happy with their rifles.

Enfields are fine, but ammo is pricey now. Mine gets a diet of cast ammo. Keeps costs down and mild loads will extend its life.

The availability of surplus has gone way down, sourcing has dried up. Rule of capitalism is that the higher the demand, the price goes up for limited supplies. To answer your question, I think we've all seen surplus go for stupid money here, and on other boards, and certainly in the gun shops. Days of buying "5 for "200" Mosins and Turk Mausers are gone. Enfields pop up now and again but the prices have gone up. 03s and 03A3s are in the 7 and 800s. Glad to hear you're happy with your Mosin! I'd snatch up an M39 and a Swiss K31 before these go stratospheric.
