Default Was pulling out a gun the right thing to do in this situation?

Robber walks into a full bar and announces a robbery. The owner pulls a gun in self defense. The robber starts shooting and hits the owner in the arm, 1 customer in the ankle and another customer in the head. The robber and an accomplice got away.

Did the owner make things worse by pulling a gun?

3 shot during attempted robbery at South City bar

    SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -
Authorities are investigating a triple shooting that happened in the Carondelet neighborhood of south St. Louis Saturday night.

The shooting happened around 8:00 pm at Red's Eighth Inning Bar, which is near the intersection of Michigan and Holly Hills Ave.

Police said a masked suspect entered the bar and announced a robbery. The bar was full at the time, with around 20 people inside.

The owner, who was bartending at the time, took out a gun from behind the bar, and she and the suspect started exchanging shots.

Police said the suspect then went outside while still shooting.

Police said the owner was shot in the arm, a female customer was shot in the ankle and a male customer was shot in the head. All three were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover.

Witnesses said there was a second suspect in the bar's foyer. Both suspects ran.

Bar owner has no way of knowing whether the robbers are gong to shoot her or not. If she felt pulling her gun improved her odds of surviving, go for it.

Twenty people in a bar, and it's full? Must have been a small bar.

Under these circumstances, is the perp gonna waste all the patrons?

Morally I say she did right.

    But legally......

Not that new reporters can be trusted to give accurate/honest information.
And I do not know that state's or city's gun or deadly-force laws.

But since the above except from the article does not mention the robber displaying a deadly weapon.
If this occurred In PA. And if the robber did not display a deadly weapon. I think she could be in trouble.

I'd rather live in a country where crazy business owners pull out guns and open up on armed thugs, than one where the armed thugs have their way with cuck business owners and customers. If an innocent person or two get caught in the crossfire, ten or a hundred more will be saved through deterrence, but we'll never hear about them.
