Default Collection of documented instances where OC deters crime

    Hey all,

Every now and again something comes up (Wafflehouse, Walmart, that sort of thing) where an OCer deters a crime just by being there. Has there ever been a list compiled of these sorts of instances?

Doubt it. The media doesn't like positive carry stories.

Absolutely! In New Jersey, they are called criminal history records.

It would be difficult to compile anything as in most cases no one but the bad guy would note it. They aren't go to tell anyone.

No victim no crime no police report.

There is a thread running that’s updated several times a day with news stories showing average people defending successfully themselves with firearms.

Have you looked through the various topics at the top of this forum?

    http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/forum.php

I just skimmed through rather quickly and nothing really jumped out at me. They have
a "Defensive Gun Use" topic but that seems to be mainly the actual use or firing of a gun
as opposed to the avoidance of such through mere display. Still, you may find some of what
you're after if you look deep enough.

I think one of the issues you'll run into, in addition to the already mentioned lack of reporting, will be
the lack of sources you can cite. You will end up with a user's accounting of the event(s) and nothing to
back it up, no matter how many make the list.

Good luck, I think you're going to need it.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

USCCA magazine and website always has a section called "positive stories" or such about armed citizens defending themselves. NRA mags also. Some of the stories have the bad guys running away at the sight of a gun. Best scenario

I think these posts nailed it. I am convinced there are a large amount of incidents every day where someone with a gun whether open carry or pulling out a gun put a quick end to thoughts of someone committing a crime. But the criminal is not going to report it and it’s more trouble than it’s worth for the carrier to report it, thus most remain undocumented.

On the flip side, I’ve read literally thousands of articles in the last year where people have been robbed, raped, beaten, or murdered. I can’t help but wonder how many of those instances would not have happened if the person had been OC or CC or kept a gun in the home. It would not have made a difference in every case, but I am sure it would have in a large amount of the crimes.

Happens every day. Ever hear of a cop in uniform and openly armed getting robbed?

    Unarmed security guards , rent-a-cops and plainclothes/detectives , sure.

Respect for badge or uniform? Hell no!

Fear of getting shot? Yell yes!

Getting robbed, no. But getting shot or assaulted or murdered? A few everyday.

Not an apples to apples comparison
