Woman arrested after cops find loaded handgun in her purse

A Florida woman was arrested after cops found she was carrying a handgun loaded with hollow point bullets in her purse during a traffic stop, Frenchtown police said.

Cops stopped Donna Marie Gracey, 59, of Seminole, Florida, on Tuesday for having tinted windows and a view obstruction on Bridge Street in Frenchtown. While she was searching for her license, officers spotted a concealed weapons permit, according to a press release.

An investigation revealed Gracey had the handgun in her purse, authorities said.

Though Gracey had a permit to carry the gun in her home state, New Jersey's strict gun laws require weapons to be stored unloaded and locked in the trunk.

While legal to possess hollow point ammunition, there are heavy restrictions in N.J. regarding transporting and using the bullets.

it is also illegal to possess hollow nose or hollow point bullets unless you are engaged in one of the activities that are considered "exemptions." These include: hunting, fishing, and target shooting.

Gov. Chris Christie has pardoned a number of out-of-state residentswho were caught with weapons, but is against a GOP-led bill that would allow gun owners with state-issued concealed-carry permits to carry in states that allow concealed weapons.

Christie is against the change, noting it's a state's rights issue that the federal government should stay out of.

Gracey was charged with possession of a loaded handgun and possession of hollow point bullets and summonses for tinted windows and view obstruction. She was released pending court.

    Article FAIL.
Only for travelling through NJ. That should have been made clear.

On a side note it never ceases to surprise me how many people think they can carry anywhere because they are licensed in another state. Can't tell you how many people I know (mostly women) that were certain they could carry in NYS.

    Cops on fishing expeditions.
One of the local town cops stops out of state tinted windows routinely.
It highlights why people assume what is legal in one state is legal in another. If the tint is too dark for NJ AFAIK they can pull you over. No different then having to obey various traffic laws that may be different then your home state.

Also she was on Bridge street (the one that crosses the Delaware). Not that it matters but I doubt she was more than 100 yards in NJ. The cop was probably sitting at the end of a bridge pulling all of the out of stater he could.

it will be interesting to see if she spends any time in jail with the new Governor.

On Bridge street in Frenchtown? Not known as a major drug corridor, less than a half mile from PA too. A wrong turn across the bridge could go south quickly!

Was this the probable cause to search her purse? Florida leads the country in concealed permits (1.5 million). Some North Florida counties approach 15% of the population having a permit.

BTW Pennsylvania is #2 with about a million LTCFs. I guess don't keep your gun permit right next to your driver license.

You would be surprised how many motor vehicle code violations NJ has that are perfectly legal in other states. I've been pulled over for sidepipes , illegal in NJ unless vehicle came originally equipped with them. And burden of proof is on YOU!

Can't take many of my PA registered and inspected motorcycles there. They LUV writing ticket$ for out of $tate motorcycle$. Helmets need reflective tape and eyewear must be safety certified (ANSI Z87 or better).

Got pulled over for no turn signals , even though my bikes predate federally mandated turn signals (1974).

As for tinted windows , they can only have so much tint. They do use a light meter.

ANY thing hanging from the rear view mirror will get you pulled over. Not too long ago , someone got shot after getting pulled over for a handicap hangtag.

It might be illegal to eat or drink anything while driving in NJ. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...road/88380406/

I guess hands must be on steering wheel at 10 and 2 at all times.
