Default Buying a bipod Need advice

I am buying a Ruger American Rimfire Target sometime in the near future. I was fortunate enough to get an optic for it this Christmas. I would like to add a bipod to the future setup. I have never owned one. I am pretty convinced that since I won't be hunting with it and merely bench shooting with it, that I don't need it to swivel. What height should I get? 6" to 9"? Is the Caldwell good enough for this project at 40 bucks or do I need to spend 100 on a Harris? Help me out.

While I own a Harris I personally would not recommend a Bi-pod for bench shooting. I think they are just too dam wobly and cannot lock them down solid for consistent shots.

Now I may suck with them and YMMV but I'd rather and have spent the money on a better front bench rest.

    Leave the bipods for hunting.

For what you describe how you are going to shoot, I'd go with a Caldwell Rifle Front Shooting Rest, you can go economy or high end and anything in between with Caldwell and they are good solid rests.

If you think a bipod is wobbly get behind an atlas. You’ll change your tune

I have a few very nice rifle rests. Thanks for the input. Having a ..22 plinker with a bipod is something I want to do. I am just wondering if the Harris is worth the extra cash.

It is. I have two Harris’. One on a Ruger 50th Anniversary 10/22 another on a Remington 700. One swivels, the other don’t. Doesn’t make too much of a difference. You get what you pay for.

It you decide to use a bipod, Harris is a good deal for the money unless you want to spend A LOT for an Atlas. I have Harris bipods on several rifles and tye do everything I need them to do and mine are pretty darn solid (although, again, not like an Atlas - but a lot less money).
