    Default ACT 235 Question

    Hi everyone,

Pardon me if this is in the wrong section.

I am looking to pursue my Act 235 certification for a position in Pittsburgh,PA. The position is as a Hospital Police Officer, the position states I can be eligible with an ACT 235 cert and a year of security/law enforcement. My question is that with ACT 235, how are some officers there able to operate as law enforcement? Is it just a title?

No, they're Act 120 qualified and are actual law enforcement, with full arrest authority and all that stuff.

I did notice they'd give me a chance with Act 235, I'm guessing I would have to pursue 120?

An agency with full police powers will require Act 120. Look into Allegheny County's police academy, or CCBC's.

Act 235 only gives you the arrest powers of a civilian, meaning that you can only arrest someone that commits a felony that you personally witness. I say this because I have my Act 235 and have been working as an armed security officer for the past two years.

The "/" means or. So 235 or if your a cop who.wants a side hustle they want you. But the ad says year exp, so even if you get 235 you still need exp.

The local hospital in my area will hire with ACT235 and you have to agree to obtain your ACT120 within a year of employment.
