    Default Harrisburg Patriot Article

There is a article in Sundays paper on the front page about the rise in concealed carry permits, didn't get to read the whole thing yet but thought it would be of interest.

Any one else read the Patriot-News today? Front page has a story by Mary Warner titled "Who's Packing."

I was surprised that it wasn't completely negative.

    Who's packing?

Sunday, September 21, 2008 BY MARY WARNER
    Of The Patriot-News

A pit bull lunges for a 4-year-old boy as he walks with his father to Saturday services at a Harrisburg synagogue. The father pulls his pistol and shoots the dog.
In the parking lot of an Annville-Cleona school, a student finds a loaded handgun. Turns out, a school bus driver with a permit to carry it dropped it from her purse.
In the wake of a shooting outside Harrisburg Mall, police arrest and then release an armed man in a car. He's not a suspect, they say, and he has a permit to pack that pistol............

Question Re: Who's packing?.... Article in Sunday Patriot News

The places where guns are prohibited under Pennsylvania law make a relatively short list: casinos, courts, day care centers, homes for the mentally retarded, and schools.
Is this more creative writing from the media or actual law?

I never knew those places where off limits..not that I have a real need to go to either, was just wondering?

Not so fast....firearms are prohibited in some licensed daycare facilities as a condition of licensing. There is no criminal statute prohibiting someone from carrying a firearm in such a facility, and no criminal penalty for the act. The "penalty" is loss of licensing for the facility, and I would be surprised to know of any example where a license was lost because of a patron carrying there.

Ummm.....that's a penalty imposed by her employer, not a result of a criminal conviction - it doesn't even say she was charged.....interesting.

I need to find this lady's name and speak to her.
