Transporting Question
So I heard something from a friend that I needed to verify with you fine folks: Say a friend of mine gives me a gun to borrow to take the range because I wanna know if it something I would like to buy for myself. The friend isnt with me. The gun is registered to him. If i were stopped by the police and they saw that I was in possession of a firearm that wasn't mine but had full well permission to be using, would I be breaking any sort of law? Thanks!

Re: Transporting Question
Bogus question. Don't let them see it. Lock it in the trunk with the rest of your gear.
Do you have your PA LTCF?While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Transporting Question
First, handgun or long-gun? It makes a difference.
Long gun - no paperwork is required for resident to resident transfers/loans/sales whatever, so highly unlikely you'll have any trouble at all.
Handgun - "officially" there isn't any registration in PA. That said, the Record of Sales database is often illegally used as a registration by LEO's. Could have issues here, even if you're 100% legal. Do you have your License to Carry Firearms? If not, don't even think about it. If you do, your friend can legally loan you his firearm, and as such, you shouldn't have any issues, even if you run into a LEO who for whatever reason decides to illegally check the "registration".
*All of this assumes all parties involved are legally able to possess firearms. I'm not a lawyer, your mileage may vary, etc.*

Re: Transporting Question
If you have a LTCF it is legal for another owner to loan you a gun, so there should be no issue. If you do not have a LTCF, I would not do it. There is no guarantee that a law enforcement encounter might not go well. As others have said, if it is locked in the trunk, that provides another layer of security.
