Break out the powder and flint...
I failed to fill a doe tag today with my pistol. I had a few opportunities but never even cocked the hammer. It's no secret that I would rather have a tag left to give me a reason to push around in the snow with some great friends carrying a flintlock. Who else is ready? Beaver traps will be set in the morning then the rest of the day will be spent flintlock hunting. The day AFTER Christmas is like my Christmas.

I'm tagged out but I'll be putting on drives for my flintlock buddies. Got a new ax handle to hit off the trees as I'm walking through.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
I have a tag, but I will be relaxing this year. With two in the freezer, and leftover from last year I'm full up.
Good luck to the rest of you.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
I suppose I'm the only one of my buddies who does not have a flinter. Maybe I should give it a try.
I do have a 2B tag left but have 2 deer in the freezer.
Since I'm in the mood, I made jerky from last year's steaks and jerky chunks. 1 have 3 poundsmarinating right now for smoker tomorrow and another 3 lbs for later in the week.
That should be the last of the year old meat.
No freezer burn.
If I do go after Christmas with my slug gun, I'll donate the grinds but keep a few cuts.
Good luck to you guys. Keep your powder dry.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
I passed up a couple of 'iffy' during rifle season so I have plenty of tags left. I'll be out, maybe here in Somerset, maybe head north to DuBois. Probably not until New Years weekend though, the day after Christmas will be traveling home from the grandkids house.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
I took a buck during the first week with one of my handguns, so I hunted the rest of the season with another handgun, but I kind of really wasn’t wanting to pull the trigger on a doe. I have a doe tag and a bonus tag for 3D and I hope to use at least one during the flintlock season. I’ve never taken a deer with my flintlock, so if I get the chance I’ll try and take a doe.
I have to due my departments schedule for the next two months when I go in tonight, as I still have more than a weeks vacation to burn, I should be off for the first week of flintlock.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
I have done well during the bow season and took a big doe during the rifle season with a handgun. I have one DMAP tag left but am not sure I will be hunting in the DMAP area? I am sure I will be helping buddies who still have tags by pushing deer their way. I have been a good deer dog for them in the past and I really enjoy helping others see deer during flintlock season. Nothing like the sound of black powder in the PA deer woods. It is a great season.
