Re: Break out the powder and flint...
No lack of snow here in Erie and Crawford counties. Today is the last day of muzzleloader season in NY, but the snow is more than knee deep. Shredded knees plus deep snow equals no fun. I stayed home.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
Got out shooting the TC Hawkins 50 Cal. I use 250 Grain Hornady SST with a Red Sabot. 90 Grains of FF and am hitting bullseyes at 50 Yards. Don't think my eyes could do much past 50 with open sights but I am sure the rifle could. Should be fun the day after Christmas.

I'm shooting a 180 grain .490 round ball over 80 grains of Goex FFFG.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
Yes it is a 1:48 twist. Shoots and groups great at 50 yards. I am going to try to see if I can do any 100 yard shooting and see if it groups. While hunting I would keep shots 50 yards and in.
I also shoot the very same 250 grain Sabot out of my CVA Optima Pro inline with a 1:28 twist. Almost twice the twist rate of the TC Hawkins. The CVA has a scope and is deadly out to 150 no problem.

Re: Break out the powder and flint...
The 1:28 inlines are far from my 1:66 flintlock. I have a T/C impact and would be comfortable shooting 150 yards with it. Blackhorn 209 powder for the inline is worth a look if you haven't checked it out. I know guys don't really want to deal with loose powder in an inline. Each has its place though. Good luck this season!
