Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
I need to pick up a case for my H&K 91 with retractable stock. I was thinking of a hard case made for the model if available but I have seen some nice looking soft shells. I know that everyone is going to have their own opinion and all will vary but I would like to hear them so I can sift through them and maybe come up with one of my own. I'll probably hunt for one at the Oaks show if I can come to a decision on what to get.
Thanks in advance for your help and not crapping all over my thread.Gender confusion is a mental illness

Re: Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
You can get a hard shell with a custom cut foam inside too. I have a CETME so I just toss it in the truck without a case.

Re: Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
Here is a case i had built for me from these guys http://www.mycasebuilder.com/
They are actually very competitively priced. You pick the case and then you can design the interior cut outs any way you want. Mine for the SBR was a Plano case and the total cost with shipping was a bit over $120 IIRC.

Re: Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
If it is truly an HK 91, the gun is valuable enough to warrant a hard case.
If its a cetme or a ptr even, soft case is sufficient.Last edited by ianb1116; December 7th, 2017 at 04:58 PM.
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.

Re: Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
I don't keep guns in cases. I use cases to transport guns. Airlines want a hard case. If you're not flying anywhere with it, a soft case is OK.
Boy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!

Re: Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
I would go with a hard case with foam. Better in case you need to travel.
Don’t like me ???? Tough, I don’t give a flying f@@k about ya.

Re: Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
I'm with Gripsafety on this one. My guns live in the safe.
When I'm headed somewhere with one or more of them, I choose the transport type based on where I'm going, how I'm getting there, and quantity of firearms to be transported. I have maybe 4 generic soft cases in varying sizes, several AR type bags both single and double rifle, several hard cases, and a monster 2 rifle Pelican rolling case. Horses for courses as it were.
Good luck with your search on what works for you.Underwater, the ONLY way to fly...

Re: Rifle Case, Hard or Soft?
Since I am a cheap bast frugal guy, I picked up 3 soft cases from Midway during a $13.99 sale.
I have a 4-pistol pelican-type case that can handle my AR pistol broken down in one of the 2 layers and my pair of 1911s on the other, also picked up cheap.
If I ever plan to fly with any long guns I would probably get a long (42"?) 2-rifle hard case that could handle my 16" AR, my 7" AR, and both 1911s, plus related ephemera.
My 2¢
YMMV
etc...
