Default What is your self defense ammo?

I need to rotate my 9mm carry ammo out, it's been a long while since last time I rotated and each round probably went thru few eject-rechamber rotations. I've been using Corbon DPX for many years, but from what I'm hearing they are having issues and problems now so need to figure out what brand to buy.

What do you guys carry normally, the maker the line the grains? Thanks a lot.

Same here it seems to perform better then all other self defense loads with penetration and expansion in the standard and +p versions. It can also be found between $20.00 and $25.00 per 50 round box which is a big plus.

OP here is a very well done and detailed series comparing many popular brands of 9MM SD ammunition using the FBI standards and protocols done by Shooting The Bull.com

And how many shootings have you used it in?

Don't know anyone who was ever attacked by a block of Jello.

Seriously. All these magic designer bullets are hyped by the advertising dept after spending considerable money on design and manufacturing , what else are they going to say. Every bullet design since the basic hollow point is touted to be the deadliest ever. Gelatin blocks are used to show perfectly expanded mushrooms. They don't have clothing , bones , muscle , cartilage , etc. I'd rather base my opinion on actual street shootings. People have run away after taking 5 .45ACP Hydra-Shoks in the chest , and some drop dead after a single .25cal 50gr FMJ. The 115gr 9mm Win Silvertip had an excellent track record till the FBI shoot-out in Miami and that bullet worked perfectly and did a hell of a lot of internal damage.
My doc says the worst wounds he ever saw in the ER were from Glaser's. A big ragged but shallow wound(s) can still drop a bad guys blood pressure to where he's got no fight. The old Marshall-Sanow reports of actual shootings were good in their day. Some writers like Mas Ayoob still base their recommendations on actual shootings and autopsies. Hell , I'd be happy if the still did the old Strasborg goat tests.

To hear someone who hasn't shot anyone say what's effective and what isn't , well , , it's just an opinion.

I can't help you much. My carry guns are all .45 ACP. I carry Speer Gold Dot HP of the 230gr variety. They work well in all my .45s. I have never had any issues with them or seen any bullet set back, Yes I check it with vernier calipers.

You may find the 9mm gold dot hard to find as the french ordered them for all their police dept.
