Critical defense did not fair well at all in that lucky gunner test I posted earlier. Both expansion and penetration are on the low end, and from the mass and speed you can extrapolate that the energy is also on the low end.

While a decent caliber and high performing bullet is helpful, shot placement is key.
The shooting results were only a point of reference. If a round worked 90% of the time with 1 shot , with no other variables factored in , than it's a good basic guide. Better than nuthin. Certainly better than the ad dept or magazine article , or internet forum.

Of the guns I carry most often , my .380s have Glasers and Winchester Silvertips. My .38s have S&W Nyclads. My .45s have 25yr old Remington 185gr SJHP+P. They were rated highly in those tests and since human physiology hasn't change in 25yrs , they should still work. Plus I have several boxes of each. I did read an article by Mass Ayoob that relayed his observations of autopsies of people shot with Federal .45 HST's and he said the wound channels were impressive. He's not a paid ad man and does see bodies that have taken bullets. Again , more credible than someone who hasn't had his first hand experience. But as I said before , some people have taken multiple hits from large caliber hollow points and either continued their intent or ran away while some have dropped dead in their tracks from a singe .22LR or .25 ACP. No rhyme or reason. Pay yer money and take yer chances.

I agree with the rest of your statement 100%.

Defence is for civilians worried about over penitration.

Duty is for the FBI tests, it has to go through auto glass and expand quickly in softer targets.

A good basic guide is also the standardized tests such as those that shootingthebull does as well. Better than nuthin, as you say, and better than something that doesn't have any standardization.

As Off. Carson alluded to , no two shootings are alike.

Actually the diner was-is in Downingtown. The theater is in Phoenixville. No known shootings there since the movie.
