Do you, by chance, know if that were stated in the case? I ask, because for one, there is no law that states that as an exception as far as I know but I am not certain of NJ law and the FOPA, other than in general terms. Further, by stopping at the hotel, he is no longer passing through so how does it matter that the airlines maintaining custody of the gun changes that unless the gun were sent immediately through perhaps before he went to the hotel or as long as it remained outside of his custody (in checked status) from landing to immediate transfer to the next plane out. In other words, if at any time he received the checked baggage containing the firearm and had to move it in his possession to the next flight, that could be argued as possession. Sounds like a lot of grey area for an honest citizen to navigate. I still stand by the assertion to avoid those states whenever possible, however.

Not wanting to increase your worries any more, But I do recall reading on a few internet firearms forums that the Maryland State Troopers actively profile ( fishing ?) out of state vehicles with gun related stickers, NRA, bolt face logos, protected by S&W ect......

I travel there occasionally, one or twice a year with an NRA life member sticker on the back and have never been stooped so take it with a grain of salt. When I go, I reluctantly do not carry and the truck is sanitized bumper to bumper of anything firearm related.

Alternately at Nashville TN, take I-65 North to I-64 to I-79 then as above. DO NOT take I-68 East out of W VA as that hits MD big time! On this route there is a KY Parkway (Bluegrass Pkwy) that cuts over at Elizabeth and goes thru Bourbon country so that could cause delays depending on your preferences (or not)

All fair advice...but with the US 2A we have to tip toe around corrupt state laws for what?? We need to do away with this fascist cult of anti gun against the citizens.

I don’t plan on getting off of the interstate. I have a CCW from MS. Thanks
FWIW.....when you get to Winchester, VA, take Rt 37 to US 522 and continue north. You will still have to go through MD at Hancock, but it will take you all of 2 minutes, at most.

It is a little out of your way, sure - but well worth it IMHO.

Aside from that - follow the law for the 2 minutes or so you will be in Maryland...

Actually about 2 1/2 because of reduced speed limit! Once again I agree with Free.

Pay no attention to the walleye smartass.

Congrats on having too many guns to fit in the truck!
Trailer and a lock seems like a smart moving expense.

I would recommend a very low profile unpacking guns into an apartment.
    Apartments suck for burglaries.

I plan on being very low key when unloading, but I’m also bringing my safe.
