Re: Questions about converting to select fire legalities.
Sounds about right lol. Theyre gonna slap my name in some ATF/DHS database just for making this thread. And all you for posting in it. Nobodies safe.
Really tho, I have zero interest in having a select fire firearm. None......unless the ATF wants to be a sweetheart and give me one for Christmas, then Id take it just to not hurt their feelings.

Re: Questions about converting to select fire legalities.
Exactly. While you can't own a post Hughes lower with the third hole for a true auto sear, a new lower can be legally milled to accept a pre-Hughes registered drop in auto sear (Google DIAS or RDIAS). Some vendors will do a complete 5/8" deep shelf at the rear of the lower, which includes the extra 1/8" space for a DIAS to fit under the rear takedown pin and upper boss. I thonk DPMS may still mill the shelf.
In a typical AR you need more than just a DIAS to run drop in full auto: you also need a full auto BCG, the correct 3 position selector switch, a lengthened disconnector to extend to the selector switch, and a hammer with the auto bump (sear contact point) on it. All these parts are legal to own without any type of permit or stamp (in PA), EXCEPT THE DIAS.
Even with all the parts, there's still a good bit of timing and shimming required in a DIAS setup, specific to each rifle. Though it sounds simple, it's really not something that can be simply dropped in any rifle and shot (safely).Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.

Re: Questions about converting to select fire legalities.
Just to add a quick visual example, I checked some of my lowers to see which manufacturers do and who doesn't leave the shelf. On the left is a DPMS lower with the full shelf already machined, indicated by a pen. On the right is a Colt LE rollstamped M4 with a cock block left in place to prevent fun.
Bushmaster has a full shelf, and it surprised me that PSA mills only a partial depth shelf at 1/2" instead of the 5/8" required for RDIAS.

Re: Questions about converting to select fire legalities.
Why not just go with the Binary trigger if you want to have legal F/A (close as you can come without bump firing)?
