Default Forks of the Delaware Gun Show, Allentown, 12/2-12/3

I don't plan to attend this show, but for those of you who want to go, it's this coming weekend. Worth going to if you live close, which I don't.

Is that an antique gun show?

There are a fair amount of real old timers, Flintlock on up. I would estimate 60/40 old/new, but it varies from show to show depending on who shows up. That is defining new as WW II or newer. If you define modern as the Modern Sporting Rifle (AR type) that would typically be about 10% There is also a good bit of military collectibles, books, pictures, uniforms, and the like. I like to think there is something for everyone.

If you come on Saturday the adjacent farmers market also has a lot of goodies, from baked goods to meats to various food items and some other junk.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get up there, I have an 1850+- S&W revolver I want to sell, it sounds like that would be a good place to try and farmers' markets are always good to check out.

If you don't sell it, you can likely find out more about it at least. I have dragged more than a few guns to shows and learned what I never knew by doing so.

BUT do take most suggestions with a grain or two of salt. Most folks are genuinely helpful, but a small few, just want to cheat you. The more opinions the better. Forks tends to run a tight ship, and dishonest dealers do not last long. That is one thing I do like about them.

Better bring a large shaker full of salt. I can't say for sure that the Allentown show is better or worse than any other, but you should do as much research as you can before buying or selling. For a gun that you plan to sell, get an appraisal from a disinterested party (someone who is not looking to buy it). I heard gun shows described in another post as a "traveling carnival", I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking that I can talk to a couple of dealers and get their feedback then take it back home with me and mull it all over. I know it's not a gold mine and there are always some listed on Gunbroker to compare the market value.

My son and I got to almost every show- have been FDHAS members for years. In fact, my father purchased my first rifle at a FDHAS show when I was 12 and the show was at the Elks CLub in Easton. Mark Jr and I will be there first thing Saturday morning!!

I'm a historical gun buff and while I don't buy much , I go to this show because I always see something I've never seen before except in books , and actually get to handle it.
