im only worried about senate... this will go through house, there will probably be sit-ins by dems and singing and cries about racism, but it was only 4+/- co-sponsors from passing a vote, if those 214+/- people follow through, we're good.

Confusion, or at the very least typos, abound as far as the NICS bill is concerned. One of the posts above, as well as the House Judiciary link in fallenleader's post list the bill # as 4477, yet putting H.R. 4477 into the google machine brings up an old bill having nothing to do with NICS. The correct bill # is 4434, at least that brings up the NICS bill in a search. When everyone calls your representative, make sure there is no confusion which bill you are talking about.

    correct.

lol watching the markup, talking about japan deaths... yeah japan not only has a tight border, they have no 2A, banned guns and a natural limit on the black market, seeing they're an island and it's a bit harder to bring guns in. unlike the open borders that the dems want here.
plus all the estrogen in the soy made japanese quite docile...

they literally went and blamed their safety on the adjacent states with loose gun laws and many of these idiots kept saying that everyone would just get their permit from the least restrictive state... when it was stated at the beginning that the bill allows people with permits from their HOME state.
dunno if i can make it through 7 hours of these morons, their brains are too empty or ears so clogged they can't hear.

^^oh, so the reason detroit has so much gun crime is only because it borders states that have loose gun laws.
nothing to do with theft of firearms or cities being criminal havens.

I called Rep Smucker’s office today to voice my support for HR38.

I could be wrong, but I believe that particular Democratic amendment to the bill was thrown out today. I think as it stands now, a NJ resident could get a Utah permit and then carry in New Jersey. That is also how the GOA explained it in a release after the vote today:

The legislation would allow anyone with a permit, and anyone from a Constitutional Carry state, to carry in any state in the country -- thereby countering the fascist laws of anti-gun states.

In particular, it would allow residents of repressive states to get non-resident permits and thereby circumvent local anti-gun officials.

And this is now on the NRA site:

Other amendments by Democrats that were defeated included measures that would have:
    • protected state laws banning firearms on private property, such as bars. Republicans argued the bill doesn’t supersede state laws allowing businesses and individuals to restrict firearms on their property.
    • expanded background checks.
    • required the permits to be issued in the states where the holder resides.

Hell Australia is an island and crooks there have no problems obtaining guns. Perhaps it has more to do with culture than anything else.
