Joni Ernst who replaced Tom Hawkins in Iowa. Mike Rounds who replaced Tim Johnson in South Dakota. Shelly Moore Capito who replaced John Rockefeller iv in West Virginia.

Looking at those who voted yes last time, there has been one major game changer that I can see. Kelly Ayotte who voted yes in 2013, was replaced by Maggie Hassan who would probably be a no vote.

That leaves us at 59 yes votes as is.

If some of the traditional no votes are tempted by background checks, who knows how they will vote.

A long shot, but this could possibly be closer than some might think.

If it is reciprocity alone and goes to a vote, I think it goes down 59-41

You are probably correct. Reading up on it, a few Democrats who voted for the bill in 2013 already said they would not this time.

Several Democrats who voted for the 2013 measure, including Senators Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, Mark Warner of Virginia and Tom Udall of New Mexico, said this week they would not do so this time around. Even Democrats perceived to be the most in favor of gun rights, including Senators Joe Manchin III of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana, were cautious about staking out a position before they needed to.

In Maryland and NJ, ‘Papers please’ is considered an acceptable means of search and seizure

i had a feeling these would be too long for most people to dig through so saved this and the followup. i haven't seen the vote but did see the debate session and iirc have to save that still.

love seeing them get schooled on the constitution.
and seeing the one woman in the committee vote? complain that it'd put the guns in the hands of kids (18-20) and get schooled on how thats an adult.. ahh delicious.

It is in the hands of the Senate Committe on the Judiciary. My understanding is that they must vote on it before the end of the year or it will die in committe. It needs to die. The Fix Nics Act which is attached to it, is an abomination and will serve to erode second amendment rights. It takes a database that is 90% of the time providing false flags and denials and puts it on steroids by requiring federal agencies to report disqualifying information to the system without due process or judicial review. It provides for 100 million dollars of taxpayers money to fund it. It expands the scenarios by which person’s would be denied. It is a nightmare.
