Can't view the video on Chrome, had the pic for a minute but then they took that away from my view too. Is that the father and grandma? They both look scary to me.

Negligence would be my guess. His gun him not securing it. Right or wrong that is what I think the authorities believe.

“A parent supervising the welfare of a child under 18, or a person that supervises such a person, commits an offense if he knowingly endangers the welfare of the child by violating a duty of care, protection or support.”

    Also:
A person commits an M-2 if he recklessly engages in conduct which places another person in danger of death or SBI.

We will see if the courts agree that he violated the above statutes by him giving his mother his loaded firearm to safely store while he quickly ran out because he was late for work.

I still don't get it. So if my kid gets hurt while my mom is watching him I can get in trouble also?

I suppose if you did something that precipitated your child getting hurt, yes. Depends on the context.

If you left your sawzall out on the kitchen table because you were in a hurry and told your mom to watch kiddo and kiddo cuts his finger off with the sawzall. Maybe. Maybe it is a stretch.

I think it depends on the circumstances. If you leave heroin out and the kid ingests it I think you should be charged. If you leave your half eaten sandwich out and the child has an allergic reaction to the ingredients with no prior indication or an allergy I say you are fine.

Whether leaving the gun with the grandmother is enough to negligate his negligence is what would be determined at a possible trial or by the DA.

It was his firearm. He is ultimately responsible. The story he asked Mom to secure it is as believable as their original denial. Besides , Mom doesn't look very responsible.
