I currently only reload .45 ACP (partially because I currently only *shoot* .45 ACP), but I still pick up .223/5.56 if I see it, because I'm about ready to start shooting those. I started keeping my .45 brass several months before I started reloading because not to do so is like throwing away money. Granted, .308 brass tends to be a bit easier to recover than pistol brass at an IDPA match, but I try to avoid missing opportunities to get my hands on brass.
In other words: if you know you're gonna reload it - keep that $#!%

Re: Is it 308 Winchester or 7.62x51?
I reload Berdan primed milsurp brass, right now Hirtenberger 1975 and 1976 7.62x51 vintage. Great brass from recently fired surplus ammo.
Most people are never going to bother and I understand why but I'm not wasting that good brass and it works. Basically I just use the RCBS berdan depriming tool, which is easy and fast once you get it set up right and just raise the decapping pin in the die so it doesn't strike the bottom. For seating the Berdan primers I just use my regular Lee hand primer and yes you do have to pay more attention seating the primer for obvious reasons. But once you get a feel for it, it's simple.
I see a lot of people on forums pole vaulting over mouse turds at the mention of berdan brass and reloading it, but I have found it straightforward and simple and it can be done if you want. Probably the only problem is getting the right berdan primers as there are several types, but so far have been able to hoover them up at big gun shows in 1000 count boxes.

My local Walmart typicall has some sort of 7.62x51, brass cased, reloadable, new manufacture for about $12 a box.
