Default 140 gr sst 6.5 creedmoor

Anyone use accurate 4350 behind a 140 gr sst? First handloads were 40.4 gr of accurate 4350 for 2445fps. Bumped it up to the listed max of 41.2 gr of accurate 4350 and I'm still only getting 2450 fps. Rifle is a Ruger American predator. I wasn't expecting 2700 fps but was hoping for close to 2600. Thinking maybe I need a faster burning powder. Anyone have any insight? Hornady brass trimmed to 1.920, Winchester large rifle primers, oal 2.690.

4350 is a slow powder and I doubt you can fit enough in the Creedmore case (without compressing) to get into trouble (famous last words)

But since you have a chronograph it opens up a lot of options. If you are only getting 2450 fps (and I assume you have a standard length barrel) you should be OK to SLOWLY work the load up. I like book loads but you might want a reality check and see what real people are loading for max velocities. Then approach these with caution.

Case capacity can depend on how far out you are seating your bullet and your rifle so book max does not always apply. How much case capacity is left in your case without compressing?

One issue with the big stick powders is getting it all to fit into the case without having to compress it. One trick is to weigh out a charge then slowly pour it thru a funnel into the case. Even pour it from 3-4 inches above the funnel. This allows the grains to settle and you can easily get room for 2-3 more grains of powder.

Experiment with that. This might be the reason the book load is so low.

Back in the 70s lore said the most recommended loads were listed first in the reloading manuals and loads that work but not as well were listed last. Don't recall if that was gun magazine info, or what. Anyone?

Go here for reloading data on 6.5 Creedmore https://sierrabulletsblog.com/2017/0...oor-load-data/ I know this is Sierra's Data but the 140 gr. SBT is very close to the Hornady 140 gr SST. ( I use the same data for both bullets in 6.5 X 55 S.E.). BTW I know it is not listed there, but if you can find data or at least a starting load for it try Norma MRP! My load development tests using it bring my 6.5 X 55 within spitting range of Creedmore performance. You might also want to consider buying Hornady's load manual.
