    Default Ruger American 450 Bushmaster.

So Im picking one of these up tommorrow and thinking of taking it for deer this year. Thinking ill be limited to about 200 yards I am thinking about putting a red dot on it. Anyone have any experience with this round. I havent had time to look at any ballistics info yet. Any ideas on what range to sight it in at? From the little Ive seen im thinking I should be about 2 inches high at 100 yards and ill be about 1.5 low at 200 yards? Im not real good at looking at trajectory tables. Ill be looking tonight after the wife goes to sleep but any help would be appreciated.

Check ammo manufacturer website, remington has ballistic chart showing 100 and 150 yard zero, others may be different https://www.remington.com/ammunition...450-bushmaster

Magnification is just nice to have, especially past 50 yards and counting horns. I'd put a 1-6 or 2-7 on it or even a 1-4. I have a 1-6 on my .458socom and it is limited to about the same range as the .450bush, 200-250yards or so. My .458 is sighted in a 50 yards currently but I shoot a LOT of cast. Hornady has a new load with the 250FTX bullet and Remington has the 260grain Accutip both will get the job done for deer.

A 100 yard zero should work fine for you. With the 260gr Remington load zeroed at 100 yards you are at +.5" at 50 yards, 0 at 100 yards, -3.7" at 150 yards and -11.8" at 200 yards.

I looked at one. I thought it was very light for a bigger caliber. Let me know how it shoots I may get it anyways.

I am also interested in your feedback. Would like one for black bear walks.

So i went the other direction. Got a Diamonback 4x12 for it. Mostly based on weight. It weighed less the the lower line 2 x 7 i was going to get.

My friend and his son picked one up and both are really accurate with Hornady ammo. I almost bought one but decided not to because I reload for all my rifles and there isn't a good selection of bullets available because it's a pistol diameter bullet .452 not a true .458 rifle bullet.

That is one of the reasons I went with the .458 socom, lots of bullets available. But it is not a SAAMI approved cartridge. It has been at SAAMI waiting for approval for at least 2 years now, big companies like Remington don't want the competition with their rounds. Th e.460sw bullets are good for the .450bush.

Had it out this morning in the wind and the snow. Recoil was much less then expected. No more then the 243 I was also checking for deer season. I put a box of shells thru...took me about 12 rounds to get it zeroed where i wanted it. Had no boresight....started out 5 inch high and 1 inch left at 25 yards. I put the last 4 rounds into 1 of the corner diamonds at 100 yards with the weather and the wind making my eyes water ill call it good enough. I think the BDC on the scope (which i also liked, great deal for the money(vortex diamondback 4 x 12)) will work great from what i can tell lining the marks up at 100 yards the three lines are exactly 12 inches on the target. So I guess i half that for 200 yards....anyways consider me satisfied.
